On March 28, 2017 Green Bay police officer Mike Rahn resigned after accusations of falsifying information in police reports. Officer Rahn covered a wide range of cases, including but not limited to drunk driving, drugs, and prostitution.
Many Cases Under Investigation
About 500 cases are being reviewed after it was discovered that several written police reports contained significant inconsistencies with what was shown on the officer’s dash cam of the same incident. There are currently only a few cases with clear evidence of wrong doing, and no ethnicity or gender appeared to be a target for the false reports. Nonetheless, the department is inspecting all of the officer’s cases since he has worked on the department for the last three years. The Wisconsin Department of Justice and the FBI are also involved in the investigation.
District Attorney Notifying Those Involved
The Brown County District Attorney’s Office advised all attorneys of record for the cases involving the officer that the cases are currently under review. The prosecuting agency is proceeding with Rahn’s cases in one of four ways: dismissal of the case outright, proceed with the case but prohibit Officer Rahn to stand as a witness, proceed with Rahn as a witness in the cases that remain accurate, or overturn a conviction.
